Terms of service

Last updated 05.08.2026

In plain words. Tab Closet is free and provided as it is, and you use it at your own risk. Use it for anything lawful. Don't abuse the shared AI service. It closes tabs for a living — if it ever closes one you wanted, or the closet goes with a wiped browser profile, that is genuinely bad and we want to hear about it, but it is not something we can be held liable for. Keep anything you cannot afford to lose somewhere you control.

Tab Closet and this website are operated by:

1. What these terms cover

They cover the Tab Closet browser extension, this website, and the hosted AI service at tabcloset.app that the extension can use ("the service"). Installing or using any of them means you accept these terms. If you do not, uninstall the extension and stop using the site.

2. The service is free

There is no charge, no account and no subscription. The AI features come with a daily allowance of credits, and we may change that allowance, or how it is counted, at any time — the running costs are ours and the allowance is what keeps them sane.

You may also use your own OpenRouter API key instead, in which case your requests do not touch our service at all and your agreement is with OpenRouter, not with us.

3. Fair use

The hosted AI service is shared. You agree not to:

Installs that do these things can be blocked without notice. Blocking an install does not touch anything stored in your browser — the extension keeps working without AI.

4. Your content

Your tabs, folders and notes are yours. They stay in your browser and we claim no rights over them. When AI is on, you give us permission to pass the tab title, URL and meta description to our AI provider for the sole purpose of naming and sorting your tabs.

You are responsible for what you archive and for having the right to send it. Do not use the AI features on pages you are not permitted to share with a third-party service.

5. Availability

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. There is no uptime guarantee. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it — including the free AI allowance — at any time, and the AI provider behind it may do the same to us.

The extension is built to survive that: with the service unavailable, archiving keeps working and grouping falls back to local clustering.

6. Use at your own risk

Tab Closet closes tabs. That is what it is for, and it is the thing that can hurt. You install it, you point it at your browser, and you accept what follows. Specifically:

Anything you genuinely cannot lose belongs in a bookmark, an export or somewhere else you control — not only in the closet. Back up what matters.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Tab Closet is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the AI will categorise anything correctly, that a tab will be archived or restored successfully, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that any of it is free of errors.

7. Limitation of liability

You use Tab Closet at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any harm arising out of or connected with your use of the extension or the service — direct or indirect, incidental, special or consequential — and specifically not for lost, closed or unrecoverable tabs, lost or corrupted archives, lost bookmarks or browser data, lost profits, lost work or lost time, whether the loss came from the software working as designed, from a defect in it, from the AI's judgment, or from the service being unavailable.

This holds however the claim is framed — contract, tort, negligence or anything else — and whether or not we were told such harm was possible.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Depending on where you live that may include liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or intent, and rights that mandatory consumer law gives you regardless of what any agreement says. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be capped, it is capped at what you have paid us for Tab Closet, which is nothing.

8. Third parties

The AI features are delivered through OpenRouter and the model providers it routes to. The extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store. Their terms apply to their part of the arrangement, and we are not responsible for what they do or fail to do.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and continuing to use the extension or the service after a change means you accept the new version.

10. Ending it

You can stop at any time by uninstalling the extension; that removes everything it stored. We may end your access to the hosted AI service if these terms are broken.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, and the courts there have jurisdiction over any dispute, except where mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.

12. Getting in touch

Questions about these terms go to the support form or support@tabcloset.app.
